On 5 & 7 September 2013, Duo Decadence wedding duo performed as part of the Cape Wedding Trio.
We had an amazing time on the 5th at DGB‘s annual trade show at the Westin Grand Hotel in Cape Town. All wine-related industries attended the exhibition and wine tasting afternoon while the Cape Wedding Trio played at intervals.
Our selection of music resonated well with the audience and created an informal and gay atmosphere. We performed some well-known light classical music which was an excellent match for the vineyard theme. Because DGB is a modern company with a classic feel, we added numerous Mozart Landlers, Mozart Minuets and several Schubert German dances. To cater for each and every visitor, we added contemporary numbers and the most popular ones proved to be “Nothing Else Matters” (Metallica), “Hallelujah” (Leonard Cohen), “Golden Girls”, “Cheers”, “Phantom of the Opera”, “Copacabana” and “Sweet Caroline”.
Our years of playing experience and our fine choice of repertoire were confirmed last week when Fine Music Radio (FMR 101.3) did a survey amongst listeners about their all time favourite classical pieces – (the survey excluded opera). It was quite magnificent when they announced the top 10 pieces and how we realized that all of those composers are included in our playlist. Our instrument combination was also well presented – violin and clarinet, with Mozart’s clarinet concerto in A that was voted as the most popular favourite amongst FMR listeners.
On Saturday the 7th of September we had and emergency request to provide wedding music at Bakoven Beach, just outside Camps Bay before you reach Llundudno Beach, but our violinist were not available, so Cape Wedding Trio “minus one” went and what an awesome new combination on clarinet and double bass! We discovered that this instrument combination could work really well and all 30 guests thoroughly enjoyed the grooviness on clarinet and bass. We performed the Trumpet Voluntary by Jeremiah Clarke as the bride entered and continued playing relaxing minuets while the couple exchanged vows. It was a short ceremony, but captured a lifetime’s memories!
